Alan O'Callaghan |
|
| Hi. This is the website of Alan O'Callaghan. I'm employed
as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computing in the Faculty of Computing Sciences and Engineering at De Montfort
University (DMU) in Leicester in the UK. I'm a researcher, author (of books and articles as well as research papers), trainer and consultant as well as an educator. I specialize in Object Technology (OT), the migration of Legacy Systems to OT, Software Architecture and Software Patterns. I wrote the ADAPTOR pattern language for migrating legacy systems to object and component-based technologies, and lead the related Janus project investigating the more general use of patterns in creative software architecture. Included in the Janus project is an ongoing collaborative experiment with LegoTM Mindstorms robots (provisionally) called the 'Bots and Pieces' project. Its aim to investigate the feasibility of a generative pattern language for this domain. I am currently writing two books on software architecture. My current (academic year 2003/4) teaching assignments at the University include: COMP2001
HNC Business Information Technology project; CSCI3007
Component-Based Development and INFO3011
Software Architecture. The revision pages for these last two are now
up and will be updated frequently between now and the exams in
mid-January. In addition, I am supervising a number of
research students and industrial placements. Administratively, I am
the final year manager of the Business Information Systems (BIS) course. I
also supervise a number of undergraduate
projects. I am a member of the Software Technology Research Laboratory here at DMU. I am also a member of the British Computer Society, the IEEE, the ACM, the World Wide Institute of Software Architects, the Institute of Analysts and Programmers, the OPEN consortium and Hillside (Europe). I was the the Programme Chair of EuroPlop 2002. You can find out more about my working life by following the links or using the menus.
